James S. Boles

James S. Boles is Associate Professor of Marketing at Georgia State University (GSU).  He has been at GSU since he received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1991. At GSU, Jim has received recognition awards from the Robinson College of Business for research (1997; 2001) and teaching (1996).  Prior to returning to Academia, Boles worked in the area of investment sales and also operated a sound-system rental business.

In addition to his work and academic experience, he has conducted research and/or training for a number of organizations including: AT&T, NationsBank, Bank of America, Scientific Atlanta, and the Atlanta Olympic Committee.  In the sales and customer service area, he has presented seminars to strategic account managers from a number of major corporations such as PPG, BP, Exxon, and DuPont.  He also has consulted with small firms on marketing strategy issues, new product development, and creative thinking.  Internationally, he teaches a four-day Sales and Marketing Management Seminar in Jamaica and has conducted Sales Training Programs for NCB Bank in Kingston, Jamaica.  Boles’ primary consulting interests involve marketing strategy, sales force management, and helping firms enhance their productivity through the application of creative thinking to their current problems.

He has published over 40 articles and has numerous other publications.  His research has appeared in a variety of journals including:  Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, and the Journal of Applied Psychology.  Boles is currently writing two textbooks.  On of these texts is on Personal Selling Effectiveness and the other examines Business Applications of Creative Thinking.
